Counsellor

Hello. I am a counsellor and have worked in the Manawatu region since 2001. Over that time I have worked with a wide range of age groups, and with people from diverse backgrounds. I work with adults of all ages, couples, and children from age 12 years (and support parents and caregivers to support younger children).

Through conversation we share knowledge and explore ideas that construct different ways of living and being in relationship with people, pain and problems. We explore stories which identify your strengths and knowledges to help you to work for positive change in your life. There are many reasons why people seek counselling. I offer a safe and confidential space in which people can speak about the problems they are experiencing and and work at finding ways forward.

My practice is informed by Narrative Therapy which is an approach that is vitally interested in the unique skills and knowledge that each person develops in the course of their lives. I have a Masters (Hons.) in Narrative Counselling, and I have been a full member of the NZAC (the Professional Body for Counselors) since 2006.

I have had extensive experience in working with people struggling with grief, including grief after a suicide of someone close to them. I also have worked extensively in the area of perinatal mental health, supporting women in experiences of difficulty during pregnancy and after the birth of their babies.
