Feeling lonely is the feeling of being alone, isolated from "the others". Most people describe it as a feeling of sadness and emptiness.

 

There are different types of loneliness. It can be divided into social loneliness and emotional loneliness. 

 

  • Social loneliness

You feel lonely because you don't know how to make friends. You have less contact with people than you would like to have.

 

  • Emotional loneliness

You do have contact with other people, but you don't have the feeling of being connected to them. The quality of your contacts is less than you would like to it to be.
