Many people come to counselling believing the goal is to remove stress altogether. In reality, stress is part of being human. The difficulty usually comes from how we relate to it rather than the stress itself.
When people fight their internal experience, it often creates a second layer of pressure — “I shouldn’t feel this way.” A more helpful starting point is to notice what your stress is pointing to. Is something important being ignored? Are boundaries unclear? Are expectations unrealistic?
Learning to work with stress rather than against it often creates more stability and clarity than chasing a permanently calm state.
