Are you a counsellor, psychotherapist, life coach or psychologist in New Zealand?

Kia ora!
I'm Nuraishah and you can call me Aishah for short. I'm a Christchurch-based art therapist who is currently seeing adult individuals with life challenges such as trauma, grief, loss and anxiety. My work involves exploring emotions and thoughts that may feel too much, too little or just 'unknown' and through both art or talk, I support clients to get to know themselves a little bit more so that they can work on healthier ways of being.
At the same time, I am very passionate to work with first time migrant mums-to-be here in NZ who want to feel confident during their pregnancy but struggle with the loss of just how to do that! I hope that I can walk alongside them to discover on the ways they can show up authentically for themselves and their baby when the magic happens.
Contact me today via the Send a message - button if this feels like you and let's get that conversation going.
I typically use Google Meet for my online sessions. You do not have to have a particular app to access it - it will be there along your gmail account. This being said, I can also use Microsoft Teams if you have access to it.
With online art therapy, I will send you a recommended list of materials which you can find but you have the choice to get any of them. There is no pressure to buy new things or get the most expensive ones. Main goal of this list is really to introduce you the range of materials which might get you to feel curious about it. I am absolutely okay for you to use what you have at home.
Currently, the common challenge that I support is working on exploration of emotions, learning ways of regulation and adopting healthier means of expression. This can also be tied to issues around self-worth, self-identity and boundaries (with the self and others).
I do invest a fair bit of time in the beginning of client-therapist relationship on exploring the self and introducing concepts of safety and stabilisation. This may look like working 1:1 on a higher frequency (weekly or fornightly) and then taper off to lesser frequency thereafter. However, this is a conversation that I have with each of my clients and it is different person to person.
This also means that the way I work with clients can be very relational - I like to gather frequent feedback on how our relationship lands or not for you. I may also check in with you on somatic/body awareness which I will pace and offer a gentle way of doing so.
With art making, I offer that on assessment that it might be helpful for you to feel, process or gain insight. Otherwise, we can engage in therapeutic talk too. So there is absolutely no pressure to make art in each session. On this note, I would also add that making 'pretty art' is not the objective of art therapy. Rather, I would stay curious about your process.
